The Basic Christian Attitude.

The basic attitude of a Christian should not be one of worry – Have I done enough? Am I doing the right thing? Have I made a blunder? – but one of confidence and hope. “I am convinced,” Paul says boldly, “that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) While there was evil on every hand, nothing Paul encountered in this life, he believed, could separate him from God. Remember, Paul tells Timothy God, “did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Not that there is nothing in the world to fear – the devil does go about roaring like a lion – Peter says, but our first thought is one of confidence that we belong to God, not fear what the devil might do. By his death, resurrection, moreover, Christ had been made Lord over all of culture, and one day every knee will bow before his lordship.
